Head Girl Team
A shortlist of twelve prospective Head Girls took part in hustings this term to select the next team of Sixth Form leaders.
As well as submitting a written application and being interviewed by a panel, each of the shortlisted Lower Sixth students delivered a two-minute speech to the whole school community. At the hustings, they spoke of their plans to develop more friendships across year groups – from cooking clubs and inter-year breakfasts, to older pupils leading younger year group assemblies without teachers. A number of candidates spoke of extending the school’s outward-looking ethos, with more charity and outreach work. Many proposed initiatives focused on health and well-being: introducing more unusual sports, free fruit, planting a herb garden, a school pet and eradicating stigma around mental health. A typical sense of fun also pervaded their pitches: more comedy nights, inter-year games evenings, more tunes playing in reception and a post GCSE party to celebrate pupils’ final days of wearing the iconic South Hampstead yellow shirt.
The whole school community subsequently voted for their chosen candidate, with the new Head Girl Team and a Sixth Form Council appointed last week. Congratulations to our new Head Girl, Sophie, and her deputies, Saaya, Alice, Jane, Kate, Alicia and Michaela, as well as our new council of captains. A big thank you too to our outgoing Head Girl Team – Sascha, Laura, Milena, Ella, Rosie and Tamara – who have achieved so much in their tenure, leading from the front with a great sense of responsibility, perspective and humour.
