Holocaust Memorial Day

Pupils led a poignant assembly to commemorate the liberation of Auschwitz, and a lunchtime seminar to discuss the current issues of antisemitism.

Holocaust Memorial Day marks the anniversary of the liberation of the largest Nazi death camp, Auschwitz, by the Soviet Army on Saturday 27th January 1945.  At a special assembly, Upper Sixth students Clare and Eden shared their very moving personal stories. It was a privilege to hear about their great-grandparents’ experiences of the Holocaust; we are grateful to them for helping us to reflect on lives lost and to use those memories to prevent such things from happening again.

Later that day, our JSOC students gave a powerful presentation, discussing how the Holocaust links to current issues of antisemitism and racism. They also compiled a list of books, films, and shared talks from Holocaust survivors to enable the wider school community to learn more about the victims of Nazi persecution.
