House Highlights

The whole school community has enjoyed a fun-filled calendar of highly competitive House events.

Pupils of all ages have had a busy half term accumulating points for their Houses via spelling bees, Maths challenges, STEM quizzes and sports matches, although no event was more eagerly anticipated, nor hotly contested, than our first staff House netball tournament.

Teachers, support staff and members of the Senior Leadership Team came together for after-school training sessions and earnest team tactics talks before the big day.  The sports hall was a sell-out for the lunchtime games, as pupils gathered courtside to cheer for their House, with all proceeds going to support the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Highlights included some incredible shooting, dynamic defending, nifty (but dubious) footwork, and plenty of controversial passing techniques: rolling the ball along the floor (Mr Thicknesse, Head of Classics), behind the back (DT Technician, Mr Menzies-Wilson) and lobbing the ball the entire length of the court (Maths Teacher, Mr Khan; Site Manager, Mr Miller; PE Teacher, Mr Learoyd).  The final was a tight battle between Potter and Benton, with the latter clinching the victory.  With thanks to Mr Garvey and Sixth Former Edie for their running commentary,  Olivia and Jemima for scoring, and to umpires Mrs Banfield and Sports Captain Flo for attempting to temper the staff’s general exuberance (and occasional blatant disregard of the rules) above the noise of the cheering crowd.
