International Skiing
Some of our top skiers attended an intense week of English national squad training in Italy ahead of the Interschool Ski Challenge.
Hannah in Year 8 and Momo and Maddy in Year 7 (along with Millie, unable to attend through injury) were selected to join the English schools national squad training week in Pila – an intense week that reaped some great results. In the giant slalom, Hannah came in 1st, with Momo in third and Maddy fourth; Hannah also placed in third in the stubbie slalom timed runs.
Momo and Maddy then stayed on for the Interschool Ski Challenge, the largest schools races on the alpine circuit run by the British Ski Academy. Over 400 competitors come from 45 British and International schools and ski academies. The girls were joined by Alice in Year 5. All the girls, under the guidance of our coaches and their team of ex-racers, performed incredibly well in tough conditions, achieving numerous top ten finishes.
The squad training and races were a great experience, teaching resilience, confidence and kindness. Special thanks to ESSKIA (English Schools’ Ski Association) head coach Niall Whatmore, who coached them at the British Schoolgirl races in January, and Emily Evans of Precise Ski, who coaches the South Hampstead ski team.
