Platinum Jubilee Tree
To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Year 7 planted a commemorative tree at our celebratory tea party.
Throughout her reign, the Queen has planted more than 1,500 trees all over the world and has spoken alongside Sir David Attenborough about the importance of trees in the Earth’s future. The special Platinum Jubilee plum tree was planted at our sports ground today to recognise our whole school commitment to environmental issues.
To contribute to UK reforestation, and reduce the impact of global greenhouse gas emissions, we are mobilising plans for every Year 7 student to plant their own tree this year. To mark the end of their first year of Senior School, we are partnering with the charity Trees for Life, creating a grove of trees in the Scottish Highlands. The charity’s mission is to rewild the depleted Caledonian Forest, supporting the reintroduction of native wildlife species. We hope that there will be an opportunity for the year group to visit the site in 2023.
Tree-planting is just one of the many proactive steps we – as individuals and as a school community – are taking to have a positive impact on the environment as part of our Project Zero programme. Read more about our sustainability strategy here.
