Kiverstein Singing Competition

It was a joy to host the Kiverstein Singing Competition again after a two-year hiatus.

Congratulations to all 18 singers selected to perform at this year’s finals, adjudicated by Dr Nico de Villiers, Vocal Coach at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In the Junior section, Hermione in Year 7 won the Junior Cup, and the following were commended: Juliette, Honor and Nihaarika in Year 9 and Sofia in Year 8. The Kiverstein bursary, for the singer showing most promise, was awarded to Nihaarika. In the Senior category, Noa in Year 10 and Maisie in the Upper Sixth were both highly commended, with Martha in the Lower Sixth crowned the winner. Thank you to all our performers for their artistic endeavours and for filling Waterlow Hall with song again.

The late Miss Diana Kiverstein started teaching singing at South Hampstead Junior School in the 1980s before moving to the Senior School, where she taught for 17 years. Before she retired in 2008, Diana established the Leah Kiverstein Singing Award at South Hampstead in memory of her mother. Many South Hampstead students go on to pursue careers in music and enjoy a lifelong love of singing and performance.
