Kiverstein Singing Contest

Our finalists filled Waterlow Hall with song at our annual competition, named after one of our former Music Teachers.

Congratulations to all twenty singers selected to perform at this year’s finals, adjudicated by Suzzie Vango – soprano, voice coach and Associate Artist at Warwick University. The audience enjoyed a melodious evening of Billie Eilish and Barbra Streisand to Schumann and Schubert.

Suzzie congratulated all the singers for their “memorable and wonderful performances”, before presenting the trophies to the winners. This year’s Junior Cup was awarded to Pandora in Year 8, for her rendition of ABBA’s Slipping Through My Fingers, and the Senior Cup to Lara in Year 11, for her performance of Fauré’s Chanson D’Amour and her own composition, No Fear. The Kiverstein Bursary award for the most promising singer was given to Elizabeth in Year 9.  Highly Commended certificates for the Junior category were awarded to Kitty and Elise in Year 8, and to Elen and Carolina in Year 10 in the Senior category.

The late Miss Diana Kiverstein started teaching singing at South Hampstead Junior School in the 1980s before moving to the Senior School, where she taught for 17 years. Before she retired in 2008, Diana established the Leah Kiverstein Singing Award at South Hampstead in memory of her mother.
