Lockdown Sport
Pupils have channelled their inner Joe Wicks this term, making fitness videos and joining our very own ‘wake up, shake up’ sessions.
Energised by the GDST Get Active challenge, the whole school community has been competing against our sister schools to cover as many kilometres as possible throughout February. Pupils have also completed fitness challenges with South Hampstead’s Movement Monopoly (pictured above).
In the Junior School, girls have been enjoying their own ‘wake up, shake up’ sessions, led by Miss Maddick, as well as football competitions and enrichment tasks, from sports-based reading to learning about healthy snacks. In a flashback to last summer’s virtual sports day, Senior School pupils competed for their House this week, doing Football, Netball and fitness tasks from home, as well as creating their own fitness videos, put to the test in Games lessons. Impressive records from this week’s House sport include 64 football kick-ups in a minute, 26 netball goals scored in a minute, and several plank holds of over 10 minutes!
Parents and pupils joined a GDST Talks session on healthy eating for sport, while our Senior School Going for Gold elite athletes and Sports Scholars had an online talk from triathlete Suzie Richards on periods and performance. Pupils also embraced the off-screen challenge of creating nutritious workout snacks – the best will be featured in an e-recipe book.
