Maggie’s Volunteers
Sixth Form students have been supporting our local cancer support centre at the Royal Free.
A group of Sixth Formers – many of whom are aspiring medics – have been volunteering at our local Maggie’s Centre; the charity offers professional support for cancer patients and their families in a calm, friendly, uplifting space.
We have absolutely loved volunteering at Maggie’s – it’s such a welcoming environment with a lovely team. We are involved in a wide variety of activities and get to do work that directly has a positive impact on others. The administrative work is very interesting and we’ve all really enjoyed learning about how to approach interactions with visitors in constructive ways. The work done at Maggie’s supports so many different people and families during some of the hardest times of their life; watching people help visitors through this experience is extremely insightful. Our time at Maggie’s has helped us to build stronger links with the charity, as well as developing better social skills in an unfamiliar environment. We would thoroughly recommend the experience to anyone looking to learn more about how to interact with patients and get behind the scenes of people working in the medical field.
