Musical Highlights

We began the year with a wonderful spring chamber concert, followed by the finals of our annual Kiverstein singing competition.

Over 50 of our talented musicians took to the stage for our first concert of 2024 – performing Beethoven, Haydn, Bohemian Rhapsody and the Pink Panther theme – testament to their creative abilities.

The same week, we hosted the final of our annual singing competition, named after one of our former Music Teachers*. Congratulations to our two winners: Poppy in Year 9, who sang Burn from Hamilton, and Carolina in Year 11, who sang Se tu ma’mi (Parisotti) and A Chloris (Hahn). Well done too to those who were Highly Commended: Amelie in Year 7, Libby and Sophia in Year 9, Imogen in Year 10, and Elen and Rosie Rae in Year 11 – with a special mention to Imogen, awarded the prize for most promising singer.

Guest adjudicator, Heidi Peger who is a soprano, singing teacher and ABRSM examiner, praised the girls on their outstanding performances: “It has been a very memorable evening listening to such wonderful singers – you are all winners just by making it to the final.”

*The late Miss Diana Kiverstein started teaching singing at South Hampstead Junior School in the 1980s before moving to the Senior School, where she taught for 17 years. Before she retired in 2008, Diana established the Leah Kiverstein Singing Award at South Hampstead in memory of her mother.
