National Netball Squad
Sixth Former Liana has won a place on the GDST Select netball team, comprising the best players from across the Girls’ Day School Trust.
The selection process involved a series of training days and trials over several terms, with the final national squad announced this week. Initial selection was from around 200 girls who competed at the GDST netball rally, hosted by sister school Bromley High GDST, last March.
Liana, who plays GS, is one of three South Hampstead netballers who currently train with the North London hub of Pulse – central London’s first ‘superleague’ netball team. Pulse’s North London hub is hosted at South Hampstead, where Miss Matthews – our Director of PE & Sport – is the Lead Coach. Through this relationship, Pulse player Chiara Semple now trains South Hampstead players, from Year 4 through to the Sixth Form, each week. Earlier in the season, Liana was selected for Pulse’s Under 17 National Performance League training group.
Liana has been at South Hampstead since the age of 4 and is now studying Maths, Biology, Philosophy & Religion and Art at A Level. As well as being one of the school netball captains, coaching younger pupils, she is a peer mentor and helps out at Junior School homework club. She also leads VEX Robotics Club and is on the senior editing team of the school magazine, The Penguin.
She will now compete, alongside her new GDST Select Netball team mates, at Loughborough University in February 2020.
