Philosothon Competition

A team of Philosophers are through to the national finals of a Philosophy contest, contemplating concepts such as justice, truth and free will.

The South Hampstead Philosophy Team, comprising Philosophy & Religion students from Year 9 to the Sixth Form, were up against pupils from St Paul’s, City of London and Fulham Boys’ in the London regionals of Philosothon – a competition whereby pupils are judged on the quality of their exploration of ideas, good reasoning and intellectual honesty. In mixed age group teams, they discussed clearly defined ethical issues, sharing, developing and challenging the views presented.

Our students excelled themselves, with clearly articulated responses to a range of stimulus material, exploring gullibility and trust, anthropocentric morality and existentialism. Well done to the following on their outstanding performances – Molly and Nihaarika in Year 9, Amalie and Axelle in Year 10, Lily and Suchita in Year 11 and Amy, Izzy, Lydia and Sofia in the Lower Sixth, with special mentions to Molly and Amy who won the best philosopher prizes for their respective year groups.
