Pilot Light Challenge

As part of our Pilot Light programme, Lower and Upper School Academic Scholars have produced a new academic journal.

The second issue of the Pilot Light features essays researched and written during lockdown on the timely topic of challenge. The latest edition has cover artwork by Sixth Form Art Scholar, Misha. Written by pupils in Years 7 to 10, the essays explore the theme of challenge from diverse angles: space exploration and cognitive development; feminine beauty ideals and cat/human communication; standardised testing and writers’ block.

Chief Academic Scholar, Upper Sixth student Amelie, once again curated and edited the journal. “After what has undoubtedly been another difficult start to the year, this publication demonstrates the undeniable tenacity and passion of South Hampstead’s younger scholars.”

As part of the Pilot Light programme, scholars contribute to an annual journal, present at symposia and (pandemics permitting) attend a cultural trip and dinner.
