Poetry Prize
Upper Sixth student Emily has been named as one of 85 commended poets in the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award 2020.
Emily’s work, written over the summer holidays, was selected from more than 15,000 poems submitted by over 6,000 entrants from across the world this year – an phenomenal achievement. Her winning poem will be published on The Poetry Society’s website and appear in an online anthology in the spring. Emily has also been invited to attend a virtual writing workshop in the second half of this term. The scheduled awards ceremony in central London was replaced by an online celebration this week.
The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is for poets aged 11-17 and has kick-started the career of some of today’s most exciting new voices. Each year 100 winners (85 commendations and 15 overall winners) receive a range of book prizes as well as membership to, and continuing support from, The Poetry Society.
