‘Pop-up’ Dining
The eagerly-anticipated Year 5 ‘restaurant’ opened its doors to critical acclaim from delighted parents this week.
Each year, under the tutelage of Junior School legend, Ellen the chef, Year 5 create a dining experience at school: pupils prepare canapés and cook an ambitious three-course dinner in a restaurant setting for their parents for one evening only.
This year, the seasonal menu included feta and beetroot on rye garnished with microleaves, crumbed chicken with asparagus and new potatoes, and a refreshing pineapple sorbet with mango. Ellen’s 48 enthusiastic trainees worked hard behind the scenes, plating up their creations, delivering the food and chatting to the diners with confidence and professionalism.
Year 5 teacher Mrs Paramour’s verdict on the cooking? “Fantastic and self-assured… light, flavoursome and cooked to perfection. It wouldn’t have looked out of place on Masterchef.”
