Rollercoaster Engineering
On Women in Engineering Day, Lower Sixth Physics students went to Thorpe Park to learn more about applied Physics and Engineering.
The A Level students enjoyed a trip to discover more about the Science behind the rides. Ailin commented: “I was amazed at how much Physics is needed to build these rollercoasters… it made me really appreciate all the work Physicists and Engineers put into developing amusement parks – which was reassuring, before going on the rides.”
Chehara commented: “It was really interesting to learn about how rollercoasters are supposed to be flexible quite and we had fun using the g-force meter.”
Stella, an Arkwright Engineering Scholar, added: “My highlight was going on ‘The Swarm’ – although the queue was long, it was definitely worth it!”
