Season of Giving
Our Sixth Form Charity Captains have galvanised another productive half term of fundraising and community initiatives.
A festive non-uniform day, a winter wonderland themed school bake off, selling candy canes with personalised messages and the language teachers’ 5km charity run are just some of the recent activities that have helped to secure well over £1,000 for the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED). Pupils have also designed festive cards to raise money for Maggie’s/Cancerkin at the Royal Free Hospital.
Girls and their families have also given back in other ways, contributing their time and effort to a number of local projects. At our annual Mitzvah Day campaign – a day of good deeds set up by South Hampstead alumna, Laura Marks – hundreds of period products and food items were generously donated for Bloody Good Period and Euston Foodbank. Gifts were wrapped and given to local children supported by Barnardo’s in Brent, while students baked cookies to share with single parent families and the elderly for The Winch’s Inter-generational Day. The Winch commented: “We are very grateful for all your support… your weekly baking and fundraising efforts have made such a difference to our families.”
Girls also filled chocolate gift bags for Christmas parties organised by Norwood – a local charity who support adults with learning disabilities and children with special educational needs. Year 11 pupils Penelope and Thea, who spearhead our Giving Joy lunchtime club crafting toys to sell for local charities, held a sale at the Junior School to raise funds for Mary’s Meals and have been busy making more items to sell. Girls have also been busy volunteering, visiting local care homes via our Pensioners’ Link programme and supporting disadvantaged young people in the local community find work through our partnership with Spear.
Our thanks go to everyone in the school community who has helped to make a difference.
