Skiing Success
Our ski squad have had another fantastic season, crowned the leading girls’ school in the Interschool Ski Challenge Trophy in Andorra.
South Hampstead’s ski team headed to Andorra to the 30th Interschool Ski Championships, led by their coaches from CDC, where they had a fantastic few days, securing numerous podium places. Out of 46 schools, South Hampstead came 2nd overall, just pipped to the gold, and were the leading girls’ school – an incredible achievement. Our U10 (Year 5) skiers raced superbly, with Sylvia taking gold in both the slalom and giant slalom; Cecilia took silver and bronze, and Amelia placed 5th. In the U12s, Evie (Year 7) took bronze in both the slalom and giant slalom; Audrey (Year 6) came a close 4th, while Lucinda (Year 6), in her first ever alpine race, came a very creditable 9th. The U14 and U16 teams, competing through stiff courses in a huge field, did well to secure a number of top five places – well done to Maddy and Momo (Year 10), Melissa (Year 8).
Earlier this month, two South Hampstead teams qualified for the British Schools Ski Association finals, held in Llandudno, racing against the schools from England, Scotland and Wales. Despite competing against U18 skiers, our young teams raced well to place 6th and 8th. On the back of their performances, Hannah (Year 11), Momo, Millie and Maddy (Year 10), Alice and Melissa (Year 8), Evie (Year 7), Lottie and Audrey (Year 6) and Cecilia and Sylvia (Year 5) have all been selected for the English schools ski squad – a fantastic result, with more girls selected than from any other school!
