Spanish Homestays

Over a dozen Year 8 students immersed themselves in Spanish life, staying with host families during the Easter break.

Coco reports back on the highlights of their sunny stay in the South of Spain:

“The trip to Benalmádena was an amazing experience. Following our early afternoon flight to Málaga, we took a coach to Benalmádena, a sunny coastal town where the language school was situated. From there our host families took us to their our homes – also our homes, for the next five nights. This was an opportunity to practise our Spanish with native speakers, which was initially quite tricky. We had Spanish lessons the next two mornings and lunch in the language school (impossibly good paella) before activities and excursions in the afternoon. Highlights were the Mayan Monkey Mijas Chocolate Factory, flamenco lessons, ice cream four days in a row and Sealife. On Saturday, we embarked on a day trip to La Alhambra in Granada to see the exquisite gardens and architecture; we also ate delicious churros at an authentic churrería. On Sunday, we visited Málaga, where we explored a cathedral, the Picasso Museum and the Interactive Museum of Music. It was a surprise to come across a huge scale procession for La Semana Santa (the Holy Week) as well. Overall, I really loved the Spanish trip. I learned so much and experienced so many new and interesting things.”
