Spanish Homestays
Year 9 and 10 linguists stayed with host families in Southern Spain, perfecting their language skills and exploring the local culture.
At the end of the spring term, thirty Spanish students embarked on a trip to Benalmádena for the opportunity to put their language-learning into practice. Georgia and Lily in Year 10 report back: “We really enjoyed our time in Benalmádena, especially the fact that we could stay with families to fully immerse ourselves into the Spanish way of life. This really helped us improve our language skills and we had a really fun time with them. Our favourite excursion was the trip to Málaga as we saw many cultural places like the Picasso museum and a Roman theatre. The language lessons at the school were engaging and the teachers made them fun. The food was delicious as well and we had a great time eating in the sun. Overall we would thoroughly recommend this trip for anyone who wants to learn more Spanish and have a great time.”
Elise and Pandora in Year 9 share the highlights of their experience: “On the first evening, we met our ‘Spanish family’ before going home for our first Spanish dinner. The week was full of so many activities: visiting a sea life centre, a butterfly park, an old bullfighting ring, taking part in flamenco lessons (not as easy as it looks) and even visiting a chocolate-making factory. Our highlight was the day trip to Granada, where we went to a traditional Spanish café and had some delicious churros!”
South Hampstead has run homestay visits to Andalucía for over 12 years, one of the many residential trips we offer our pupils each year to enable them to expand their learning opportunities and broaden their horizons.
