Bursary Ambassadors

The impact of our bursary programme has been highlighted by several of our inspirational students this term.

Alumna Chloe Tartan and current pupil Neve joined fellow students at a Bursaries in the Spotlight event at the Curzon Cinema in Victoria, as the GDST previewed films from their Spotlight Series. Chloe delivered the keynote speech to guests, drawing on her background and subsequent career as a leading technology and sustainability expert. She reflected on her own journey at South Hampstead and the impact her bursary award has had on her life.

“I cannot stress enough how none of my achievements – my PHD from Cambridge, my work at the NASA space centre, or my current role with Accenture – could have happened without my bursary. My place at South Hampstead gave me the opportunity to fulfil my potential and completely redefine my destiny.”

Chloe’s speech was followed by a Q&A with a panel of current bursary students, hosted by Head of Putney High School, Ms Jo Sharrock. One of the panellists was Neve in Year 10, one of our bursary pupils who featured in the GDST’s series of award-winning films – watch it here.

Meanwhile, we were delighted to see one of our most recent bursary students taking centre stage in local politics.  Sixth Former Zarin joined the school in September 2023 on a fully-funded place and has just been elected as the new Youth MP for Camden.

“Being awarded a bursary place at South Hampstead has provided so many opportunities and really enabled me to fulfil my potential – on a personal and academic scale. My teachers have equipped me with lots of the knowledge I need as Youth MP – from understanding political issues to speech-writing – and taking part in school debating competitions has really helped to improve my public speaking skills.”

Zarin also took time out earlier in the year to join our bursary mentoring panel and share her experiences and advice with fellow bursary award holders in younger years.

All three young women are shining examples of pupils who are benefitting from support provided by our community; find out more about transformational impact of our bursaries here.
