Sports Awards

At our annual Sports Awards event, we congratulated pupils on their outstanding sporting achievements.

Over 160 pupils gathered in Waterlow Hall to celebrate each others’ sporting successes. Pupil representatives for each key sport shared some highlights of the year, before guest speaker Chemmy Alcott presented the prizes. The skier, who competed in four consecutive Olympic Games and now coaches our ski squad, shared inspiring stories about overcoming challenges. “You don’t lose, you either win or learn.” She spoke about the importance of a growth mindset and her commitment to the 3Ps: positivity, perseverance and passion; she even had the entire audience re-enacting some slalom racing from their seats with great enthusiasm!

Awards were presented for excellence and improvement across a range of sports in every year group. Congratulations to all our winners, with a special mention to the following:

  • Our U15 cricket squad, crowned ‘team of the year’ for a fantastic season and really great team spirit amongst the players. They reached the quarter finals in the 100 ball national cup, the last 16 in the Sports Magazine 20-20 cup, and ended the season as GDST hardball champions, unbeaten through the regional and national rounds.
  • Our U12A netball team, who won ‘most improved team of the year’ for their significant progress this season, improving their individual skills and team strategy. They demonstrated their improvement in the Middlesex County Tournament where they finished in 4th place in the county.
  • Our ‘athlete of the year’, Rose in Year 9. Rose has had a brilliant season, representing the A teams at school in netball, cricket, tennis, hockey, athletics as well as performing in the dance show. Her highlights this year include: captaining and leading the U14 netball team to the Middlesex Finals as well as the London Youth Games finals; being part of the U15 cricket team who won the GDST hardball competition; being a key player in the U14 LTA tennis team; and setting a new personal best and recording the fastest hurdle time at the Track & Field Cup.

We champion inclusive excellence in sport at South Hampstead. Squad training, expert coaching, competitive fixtures, sports scholarships and our Going for Gold programme help to support our elite squads and individual athletes, whilst we also emphasise sporting opportunities for all, through initiatives such as our recent Sports For All Week
