Sports Scholars
Elite athletes in our Sports Scholarship programme have had a fantastic start to the year.
Our first Sports Scholarships were awarded to pupils joining the school in September 2020. We now have 15 scholars in the programme, representing a range of sports, from football to gymnastics.
Recent scholar accolades include Talia in Year 8, a Dance Scholar, who toured with London Children’s Ballet last month, performing as Anne in Anne of Green Gables. Other scholars have been selected to join squads at county level and beyond: Bella and Anshi in Year 7 for U13 Middlesex Cricket; Dia and Alice in Year 9 for the second round of trials for the national GDST Select Cricket team; Rose in Year 8 for the U13 Netball Middlesex Satellite Academy; and Mabel in Year 9 and Alexandra in Year 10 for U15 Middlesex Netball, with Alexandra also invited to the second round of trials for the national GDST Select Football Team.
The sports scholarship awards provide our most talented sportswomen with opportunities to develop their progression in sport. Scholarships are offered in our main sports of games (netball, football or cricket), aesthetics (gymnastics or dance) and athletics (track, field or cross-country). Scholars benefit from a rich programme of activities to help them improve their knowledge and understanding of how to train in their chosen field and balance academic work and other commitments, including regular talks, strength and conditioning sessions, attendance at the GDST Sports Scholar conference and support from Sixth Form and Sports Department mentors.
