Stellar Results

The Class of 2023 celebrated their A Level results this morning as they secured places at top destinations.

33% of all grades were A*s, 70.4% were A*/As, and 91.1% were A*/A/B. Despite a national decline in the top grades this year, nearly half the cohort (48%) achieved a clean sweep of A*/A grades.

Roshan, who joined South Hampstead Sixth Form from Iran in 2021, achieved four A* grades to secure her place to study Dentistry at King’s College London. Eva, another student awarded four A* grades, is going to Cambridge University to study Natural Sciences. Amelia and Chrystyna both achieved a clean sweep of A*/As and both are going to study Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. Leah also achieved a clean sweep of A*/A grades, turning down her offer at Oxford to study History at UCL instead.

Bursary student Aoi sat five A Levels, securing her offer to study Medicine at Exeter University. “The support I’ve received from South Hampstead has honestly opened up so many opportunities. I don’t live near the school, so the funding I’ve received to cover my travel costs has been amazing. I’ve made so many friends during my time here and am excited to be able to pursue a career in healthcare and hopefully become a surgeon.”

Other success stories from those who have received bursary support include Lucia, awarded a scholarship to study Classics & English at St Andrews University; Maria, who achieved a clean sweep of A grades to secure her place at the University of Manchester to study PPE; and Melita, who is going to the University of Liverpool to study Architecture.

Headmistress Mrs Bingham praised all the students on their outstanding achievements: “Many congratulations to the Class of 2023. This was their first set of real public exams, having had their GCSEs cancelled due to the pandemic, but they rose to the challenge with remarkable fortitude.”

Director of Sixth Form, Mr White, added: “I’m so proud of this year’s leavers who have secured offers to pursue their passions in such a diverse range of fields – Archaeology & Anthropology, Art, English & Film Studies, Football Journalism, Music, Philosophy, Law… I look forward to seeing what they go on to achieve next and wish them every success.”
