STEM Week

To celebrate British Science Week, our pupils embraced a range of science, technology, engineering, and maths-related activities.

In the annual GDST STEM essay competition, which invites students to submit 700-word essays on STEM topics, Sophia in Year 9 was named as one of 28 exceptional finalists – out of over 200 submissions from more than 20 UK schools – for her exploration of future brain implant technology.

Meanwhile, four Year 10 pupils took part in the St Helen’s School Physics Tournament alongside 21 other schools. The girls worked brilliantly together to complete an A Level experimental challenge by measuring the oscillations of a spring, solving tricky escape room puzzles to get out in 12 minutes, and competing in a calculation race. Back at school, during lunchtime Science Club, pupils had fun making bouncy balls from custard powder and borax, whilst a House Maths contest challenged the girls’ mathematical dexterity. Pupils also took part in a STEM general knowledge quiz and a pi memorisation challenge for National Pi Day on 14th March, with Anna in the Upper Sixth claiming the top spot with an incredible memorisation of 111 digits!

Our annual Photographer of the Year contest is also underway, with pupils tasked to take inspiring images of STEM subjects over the holiday, with great prizes on offer for the most creative submissions.  We look forward to seeing their work.
