Stephen Kovacevich Concert

Our guest performer for this year’s Towards 150 concert was the world-renowned pianist, Stephen Kovacevich.

Two hundred guests from the school and local community were welcomed to Waterlow Hall for a spectacular programme of Beethoven and Schubert. In Mrs Paul’s introduction, she highlighted some of the key initiatives supported by the generosity of our community this year, including our new indoor garden, ‘experts in residence’ for coding and oracy, the award-winning Debate Hub, and our Opening Doors bursary programme.

Widening access to education remains a key priority for South Hampstead and the GDST; this year, 50 pupils are attending the school thanks to bursary awards. Mrs Paul invited the audience to celebrate a new long-term commitment to support means-tested awards with the announcement of the Sir Naim Dangoor Awards, named in honour of the businessman and philanthropist who was a passionate advocate of education. These awards will support new bursary students joining South Hampstead over the next ten years.

It was an honour to welcome Stephen Kovacevich, a local Hampstead resident, described as one of the most revered artists of his generation, who has performed around the world and collaborated with legendary artists such as Jacqueline du Pré and Josef Suk. He generously agreed to donate all proceeds from the concert to our bursary programme.
