Summer Sports

Our athletes have had an energetic start to the summer on the tennis court, cricket pitch, track and field.

Over the Easter holidays, over 70 pupils from Years 7 to 9 enjoyed an active sports tour to sunny Spain, with pro netball, football and tennis coaching, as well as some sightseeing, beach trips and zip wiring. The summer term then got underway with an impressive gymnastics showcase and a busy calendar of fixtures. Highlights included our U15 footballers progressing to the next round of the Sisters n Sport plate competition, with a resounding 10-0 victory over North London Collegiate, and some stand-out performances in athletics. At the ESAA Track & Field Cup at Mile End stadium, athletes secured nine gold and six silver medals and, at last week’s GDST Athletics Rally in Nottingham, our Juniors and Seniors secured a team bronze medal.

Sports Scholars Alice and Dia in Year 9, selected to join the GDST’s top cricketers as part of the Select Team, faced MCC at a special match at our sports ground last month, finishing with a phenomenal win in the last over; and one of our Year 7 Sports Scholars, footballer Nolwen, captained the U12 Arsenal team to a cup victory, receiving the player of the match award too.

Cricket fans had the opportunity to watch at Middlesex vs Somerset at Lord’s, while our Sports Scholars were invited to a Women in Sport evening to hear from five influential, international sportswomen. We look forward to many more fixtures and events after half term, including our annual sports day and sports awards evening.
