Supporting RNLI

Pupils recently visited the RNLI’s busiest station, one of several local charities we are proud to be supporting this year.

Located under Waterloo Bridge, and covering 16 miles of the Thames between Barking Creek and Battersea, Tower RNLI Lifeboat Station is staffed by 55 part-time volunteers and 10 permanent crew. The station relies on fundraising to be able to continue saving lives. As the first ‘Friends of Tower Lifeboat’ school, we’re delighted to be able to support their vital work. Last week, a group of pupils enjoyed a private tour, met the crew and gained insight into a busy, working lifeboat station – one the many opportunities we offer pupils to look outwards, to learn beyond the classroom and to give back. The girls were able to see some unseen footage of a real life rescue on the Thames, see the rescue boats and casualty care rooms and even do a bit of RNLI fancy dress! The girls left the station with aspirations to be part of the RNLI as well as a good understanding of the importance of water safety and the RNLI as a charity.
