The Light Burns Blue

Cast and crew delivered two outstanding performances of a play inspired by the story of the Cottingley Fairies.

This year’s Lower School play was based on the real life story of teenager Elsie Wright; during the First World War, she fooled the world into believing she photographed fairies in the woods, while an ambitious young reporter, Winifred Douglas, sought to expose the lie.

The action took place in Waterlow Hall, under a canopy of magical lights, transporting the audience to Cottingley Woods. Our actors and tech team staged two spell-binding performances, capturing the drama of a story that was more than a simple hoax.  A different cast of Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils took to the stage each night, performing with maturity and poise, supported by a superb tech team and Sixth Form assistant directors.
