University Offers Update
For the second consecutive year, over a fifth of the cohort have received offers from Oxbridge, as well as from Ivy League and other prestigious destinations.
Students have received ten offers from Cambridge and eight from Oxford this year, to read a range of subjects including Architecture, Medicine, Human, Social & Political Sciences and Philosophy, Politics & Economics. Oxbridge offers were received by those who joined the Sixth Form just last year as well as girls who have been at South Hampstead since the age of four.
Other ‘top 10’ university destinations are Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds, Durham, University College London, King’s College London, Manchester and Nottingham. Typically, over 80% of South Hampstead applicants are placed in Russell Group universities each year, with others securing places at medical schools, art colleges and universities overseas. One student has already received an offer from Yale and another an offer from Central St Martins for a three year art degree; offers from other Ivy League destinations and leading UK art schools are expected in the coming months.
The school’s comprehensive Futures Programme is headed up by Dr Osborne – Director of Partnerships & Employability – who has a MEng from Oxford and a PhD in NanoBioTechnology from Imperial; she leads a team of experts who offer bespoke advice and one-to-one support, including preparation for Oxbridge and international universities, as well as advising on gap year opportunities.
Offers so far this year include subjects as diverse as Veterinary Science and Persian, Japanese Studies and Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celtic. The range of courses and leavers’ destinations is testament to the girls’ academic ambition but also their individuality: South Hampstead’s pioneering young women go on to specialise in all kinds of fields. A supportive community of alumnae (from prize-winning authors to ground-breaking scientists, passionate performers to distinguished lawyers) regularly come back to give talks across a range of fields and offer diverse mentoring and networking opportunities – an invaluable stepping stone to life after South Hampstead, whatever path each girl decides to pursue.
South Hampstead Sixth Form offers free, means-tested bursary places as well as Academic, Art, Drama and Music Scholarships. To find out more about Sixth Form entry in September 2021, please click here.
