Viennese Adventures

A Level Musicians joined Year 8 and 9 German students for a festive break to the Austrian capital at the start of the holidays.

Nearly 30 pupils enjoyed a festive, four-day trip at the end of term to explore the history and culture of Vienna, from Christmas markets and ice-skating to Waltz lessons and opera. Shoshana and Margarita in Year 9 report back on a fun-filled trip, which enabled them to put their language-learning into practice.

“We met at school to set off at 4am – a dark and early start! When we arrived in Austria, we went on a short tour of Vienna’s most notable destinations including Christkindlmarkt – an authentic, Viennese Christmas market. Throughout the trip, we enjoyed so many exciting activities including visiting Belvedere Castle and HundertWasser Museum art galleries. Our personal highlight was a visit to Prater, a theme park that’s home to the world longest-running Ferris wheel (since 1897) as well as other fun rides, including an indoor rollercoaster with strobe lights! Another favourite was dinner at a traditional Viennese restaurant, where we enjoyed Wiener schnitzel, the national dish of Austria, on swords! It was a wonderful Viennese adventure and we would definitely recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to go.”
