Winter Penguin

The winter edition of the school magazine, The Penguin, is out for the holidays.

The Penguin’s Upper Sixth editors – Amalie, Ellen, Isidora, Nelly and Zara – have compiled contributions from writers and designers across the school for their final issue before they pass on the torch to next year’s team. The latest edition, entitled Snowdrift, features regulars such as ‘overheard at South Hampstead’, a staff interview, editors’ recommended books, films and podcasts, and a selection of STEM and Humanities-related articles. Pupil-penned pieces cover diverse and fascinating topics, exploring capuchin monkeys’ capacity to understand economic principles and the origins of nouvelle vague cinema. The front cover artwork was created by Amalie, one of our Art Scholars. Copies were shared with pupils at the end of term and are available to pick up at reception.

The school magazine is produced entirely by the pupils each term, named after the quirky William Sweetlove sculptures dotted around the building – iconic blue and gold penguins that aim to raise awareness about consumption, recycling and the environment. The Penguin Student Magazine is one of our many student-led lunchtime clubs, open to all Senior School pupils who are invited to submit contributions and get involved with its design and production.
