Winter Sports
Our athletes have had a great start to the season across a range of winter sports.
Our lunchtime cross country club runners have been out in all weathers, with our athletes delivering some strong performances at the ESAA cross country cup. A special mention to Bethany in Year 8 who placed 5th in the Juniors and Lizzie in Year 10 who placed 10th in the Intermediate category; Mabel in Year 9 and Chiara and Alexandra in Year 10 also placed in the top 20. Our Senior category runners also had a great race, automatically qualifying for the next round.
Netball goes from strength to strength, with three of our squads qualifying for the county finals of the Middlesex Schools Competition – a record for South Hampstead! Well done to our U14, U16 and U18 teams, as well as our U15s who narrowly missed out on qualification in a very competitive field. In the Sisters n Sport competition, our A and B teams have had a great first round with standout results including a 36 – 31 victory for the U16As vs St Paul’s Girls’.
In other sports, Alexandra in Year 10 has been invited to the second round of trials for the national GDST Select Football Team, while Dia and Alice in Year 9 have been selected for the second round of the Cricket Team trials – a fantastic achievement.
Meanwhile our ski squads continue their successful run. At the NSSA indoor races, Evie in Year 8 placed 5th and Melissa in Year 9 placed 3rd in the U14s; in the U16s, Carla and Rosa in Year 10 placed 5th and 4th, Momo in Year 11 placed 3rd, and Alice in Year 9 came 2nd; Millie in Year 10 placed 5th and Lower Sixth student Hannah placed 3rd in the U19s. At the recent ESSKIA finals, they achieved a podium place in every age category. Congratulations to our U12A team for their win against tough competitors, and to our U14, U16 and U19 teams who all took silver.
